European Night Trains

We've often heard that Europe and Asia are at the forefront of civilized, modern travel through the use of luxury trains..... See our brief thoughts on the subject:


Here is a snapshot of what is defined as "reasonable comfort" for travelling during the night via train. To travel with an actual bed will set you back €75 per person, and with a toilet and shower €110. So really, like with much else in today's world - civilized and modern require money.

They say that hindsight is 20/20, and we couldn't agree more. Since we only were able to gain these "couchettes" for the first two of our night trains - the two longest trips (Rome to Vienna and Vienna to Florence) we had normal train seats in a little compartment - for 6 people. Needless to say, bring on the couchette and let us eat cake!
