Matthew and I almost felt like fugitives during the morning of our boarder crossing from Thailand to Cambodia. We had to be up and away from the hotel by 5 am and drive in the dark out of Bangkok for three hours to the overland boarder of Poi Pet. We took a taxi, which was a scary adventure in its self that compared to driving in India except that we were now the people in the little car rather than the people in the sizable bus!
We made it though the 'sketchy-sauce' land crossing from Thailand to Cambodia.. we even managed to escape the multiple visa scams, consulate scams, and the rather forced tipping of the “gang baddies” to make it successfully into Cambodia! YAY!
I am planning on doing a separate special post just for several of the more well known temple complexes we visited. They were even more spectacular than I could have even imagined! And our guide was able to time our visits so that we could not be overwhelmed with the bus loads of tourists… although it was low tourist season, many Asians will holiday even when most white people find it too hot.
On our first evening there, we sipped sparkling rose wine and watched the sunset paint Angkor Wat a lovely warm orange colour… it really was one of those moments you'll remember forever!
